This mural represents the pre-hispanic history of the beginning of Colonization. Before the Spanish came to Mexico there was the Aztec Kingdom . From this comes the take of the Volcanoes next to Mexico City . The great Popocatepelt (Great Smokey) and Ixtlaxiwal (sleeping lady).

It says that those two fell in love with each other, but this love could not be possible because of different social status, her being a daughter of an Azteca King, and him being just a warrior. The king decides for her to marry the bravest warrior and she will be the prize for the winner of this battle. On one side there was this army boy Popocatepelt (el caballero) Aguilla (eagle gentleman). On the other side was the King's armyboy, el caballero, Tigre (tiger gentleman). During the battle someone tells the daughter that Popocatepelt had lost and she took her own life.

At the end of the battle, Popocatepelt ends up being the winner and he runs back to his love but she is already dead. The tale says that he buried her at the side of the volcanoes and they resided there forever.

The other side represents when the Spanish came to conquer Mexico by Cortez. The sun represents the symbol of hispanics, and the other half represents the Aztec symbol.

Moctezuma (the king) received Cortez with a pact that no more blood would be lost, but by the ambition of some of Cortez's companions, they took Moctezuma, when Cortez wasn't there and tortured him by burning his feet so he would tell them where the treasure was. He never did and they killed him.

When Cortez found out what had happened he tried to leave the city that night but the town was really angry and they killed a lot of Spanish hurting Cortez.

Cortez goes to cry his loss under this tree, and they called this the “El arbol de la noche triste (The tree of the sad night).”

This mural shows the beginning of Puebla City .

It also has at the very front Mr. Marcelo Reyes (the owner of this establishment) riding a beautiful horse.
